Matt Adams was born on August 31, 1988, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. He was a standout baseball player in high school and was recruited by Slippery Rock University, where he played for three seasons before being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 23rd round of the 2009 MLB draft.
Adams quickly moved up through the Cardinals’ minor league system and made his MLB debut on May 20, 2012, as a pinch hitter. He became a regular player in the Cardinals’ lineup in 2013, batting .284 with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs in 108 games. He continued to be a key player for the Cardinals throughout his tenure with the team, earning a reputation as a power hitter with a strong left-handed swing.
In 2017, Adams was traded to the Atlanta Braves, where he played for two seasons. He continued to be a productive player, hitting 21 home runs and driving in 57 runs in 2018. In 2019, Adams played for the Washington Nationals and was a key contributor to the team’s postseason success, hitting a clutch home run in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Overall, Adams’ baseball career has been marked by his power hitting and ability to come through in key situations.
