Burrell made his major league debut in 2000 and quickly established himself as a powerful hitter. He drove in over 90 runs in each of his first six seasons with the Phillies and hit over 30 home runs three times. In 2008, Burrell helped lead Philadelphia to its first World Series championship in 28 years. He hit .400 in the World Series and drove in a crucial run in the decisive Game 5.

After spending nine seasons with the Phillies, Burrell played his final two seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants. He retired after the 2011 season with a career batting average of .253, 292 home runs, and 976 RBIs.
