Red Schoendienst is a former American professional baseball player, coach, and manager. Born on February 2, 1923, in Germantown, Illinois, he played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for 19 seasons as a second baseman from 1945 to 1963. Schoendienst played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Braves, and New York Mets during his career. He was a 10-time All-Star and won two National League (NL) pennants, two World Series championships, a Gold Glove Award, and the 1953 NL batting title during his playing days. After retiring as a player, Schoendienst became a coach and manager in the MLB. He served as the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1965 to 1976, leading the team to three NL pennants and two World Series championships. Schoendienst also managed the Milwaukee Brewers and was a coach for several other teams. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989 and his number 2 was retired by the St. Louis Cardinals in his honor.

Schoendienst's legacy in baseball is widely recognized, and he is revered as one of the greatest second basemen in MLB history. His legacy and contributions to the sport have continued to be celebrated. In 2018, Schoendienst passed away at the age of 95, leaving behind a lasting impact on the game he dedicated his life to.
