Roy Face Autographs

Roy Face was an American professional baseball player born on February 20, 1928, in Stephenson, Virginia. He played in Major League Baseball as a relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1953 to 1968. Face spent most of his career as a closer, and he was one of the best at his position in the 1950s and 1960s. Over his 16-year career, he compiled a 104-95 record with 1,071 strikeouts and a 3.48 ERA.
Face had his best season in 1959 when he finished with a 18-1 record, 10 saves, and a 2.70 ERA. He played a significant role in leading the Pirates to their first National League pennant since 1927. Face also led the league in games finished (63) and win percentage (.947). His performance earned him the Sporting News National League Pitcher of the Year Award and a third-place finish in the NL MVP voting.
Despite being recognized as one of the greatest relief pitchers of his era, Face never made it into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He retired in 1969, and the Pirates retired his jersey number 28 in his honor. Overall, Roy Face was a consistent performer who excelled under pressure and helped the Pirates win games during his time as a relief pitcher.
