Scott Rolen is a former professional baseball player who was born on April 4, 1975, in Jasper, Indiana. Rolen was a three-sport high school athlete, excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. He was offered a football scholarship from the University of Georgia, but he opted for a career in baseball after the Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the second round of the 1993 Major League Baseball draft. Rolen made his debut in the major leagues in 1996 with the Philadelphia Phillies, becoming a starter the following year at third base. He spent his first seven major league seasons with the Phillies, where he won his first Gold Glove in 1998. He won three more Gold Gloves in the next three seasons, in addition to being named to the National League All-Star team four times. In 2002, Rolen was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he played from 2002 to 2007. While with the Cardinals, he was named to three All-Star teams and won two more Gold Gloves. During his career, he was known for his excellent defense, hitting ability, and power hitting, with 316 career home runs.

After 17 seasons in the major leagues, Scott Rolen retired in 2012. He finished his career with a .281 batting average, 2,077 hits, and 207 home runs. Rolen was also known for his leadership and work ethic both on and off the field. He was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019, and in 2020, he was elected to the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.
