Steve Blass is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played his entire career in the Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Blass was born on April 18, 1942, in Canaan, Connecticut, and attended New Fairfield High School before signing with the Pirates in 1960. His professional baseball career began in 1964 when he made his debut for the Pirates. Blass is also known for the psychological disorder named after him, "Steve Blass Disease," which refers to the sudden inability of a previously successful athlete to perform his or her tasks. Despite his struggles with the condition, Steve Blass remained an integral part of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, and his legacy as a World Series champion remains in the annals of baseball history.
