Tom Brookens is a former American baseball player, who played as a third baseman for the Detroit Tigers from 1979 to 1988. He was born on August 10, 1953, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and attended Fairfax High School in Virginia. After graduating, he was drafted by the Tigers in the first round of the 1975 MLB draft. Brookens made his MLB debut with the Tigers in 1979 and became a regular starting third baseman in 1982. He was known for his strong throwing arm and his solid defensive abilities. Brookens played a key role in the Tigers' success in the 1984 season, helping the team win the World Series. He batted .231 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 128 games that year. Brookens continued to play for the Tigers until the 1988 season, after which he signed with the New York Yankees for one year before retiring.

Following his retirement as a player, Brookens became a coach, working for several different organizations, including the Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians, and Seattle Mariners. He was inducted into the Fairfax High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. Brookens remains active in baseball and continues to work as an instructor and mentor for young players.
