Tony Pena is a former Major League Baseball player and current coach who was born on June 4, 1957, in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. He began his professional baseball career as a catcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1980, where he spent six seasons. Pena played for several other teams during his career, including the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and Cleveland Indians. He was a three-time All-Star and won the 1992 American League Championship Series MVP award for the Indians. After his playing career ended in 1997, Pena became a coach, spending time with several different organizations. He joined the New York Yankees coaching staff in 2006 and won a World Series championship with the team in 2009.

In addition to coaching, Pena has also managed several teams, including the Kansas City Royals and the Dominican Republic national team. He led the Royals to their first playoff appearance in 29 years in 2014. Pena is widely respected in the baseball community for his knowledge of the game and his leadership ability, and he remains involved in the sport today as a coach and ambassador.
