Johnson's style of pitching was unique and revolutionary in his time. Most pitchers at the time relied on their curves and sliders, but Johnson primarily relied on his blistering fastball that regularly clocked in over 100 mph. He was one of the first players voted into the Hall of Fame when it opened in 1936. He was also the first pitcher to ever win the American League's MVP award. During his storied career, Johnson was known for his durability and consistency. Johnson threw many complete games and was known for his stamina, often pitching over 300 innings a season.

In addition to his achievements on the field, Johnson was also known for being a great human being. Despite his talent and success on the field, he remained humble and hardworking throughout his life. After retiring from baseball, he worked for many years as a coach, a scout, and an umpire. In 1946, Johnson passed away from a brain tumor, but his legacy as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history will never be forgotten. Read even more about Walter Johnson at Wikipedia
