Wilson Betemit, born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on November 2, 1981, is a former professional baseball player. He started his professional baseball career in 1996 with the Atlanta Braves. He played in the minor leagues for six years until he was called up to the majors in 2001. Betemit played for Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, and Tampa Bay Rays in his 12-year-long career. He primarily played as a third baseman, first baseman and shortstop.
In his professional baseball career, Betemit was known for his power-hitting ability. He had a career batting average of .267 with 75 home runs and 375 runs batted in. He was also known to be a versatile and reliable player, who could play multiple positions. Betemit was respected by his teammates for his leadership qualities, work ethic and positive attitude in the locker room. His contribution as a pinch hitter, especially during his time at the Atlanta Braves, was remarkable.
