Dan Issel Autographs
Dan Issel is a former American professional basketball player and coach. He was born on October 25, 1948, in Batavia, Illinois. Issel played college basketball at the University of Kentucky from 1967 to 1970, where he was a two-time All-American and averaged 25.7 points and 13.9 rebounds per game. He is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball program.
Issel was selected as the tenth overall pick in the 1970 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. However, he decided to join the American Basketball Association (ABA) and played for the Kentucky Colonels for nine seasons, from 1970 to 1975 and from 1976 to 1980. During his ABA career, Issel averaged 22.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He was also a seven-time ABA All-Star and a two-time ABA MVP. Issel led the Colonels to the 1975 ABA Championship and was named the Finals MVP.
After the ABA merged with the NBA in 1976, Issel played for the Denver Nuggets for six seasons, from 1975 to 1982. During his NBA career, he averaged 20.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Issel was named an NBA All-Star in 1977 and 1978 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. After retiring as a player, he coached the Denver Nuggets from 1992 to 1995 and also served as their general manager from 1998 to 2001.
