Gerald Green is a retired professional basketball player who was born on January 26, 1986, in Houston, Texas. He attended Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, where he played high school basketball. He was considered one of the top prospects in his class and was among the best high school basketball players in the country. After completing high school, Green chose to skip college and declared himself eligible for the 2005 NBA Draft.
Green was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 18th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He played for the Celtics for two seasons before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007. After a brief stint with the Timberwolves, he played for a variety of NBA teams, including the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, and the Milwaukee Bucks. He also had brief stints in professional leagues in China and Russia.
Throughout his career, Green was known for his athleticism and high-flying dunks. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2007, taking home the trophy after jumping over a table and dunking a ball that had been blown out of a cupcake. He retired from professional basketball in 2019 after playing in the NBA for 12 seasons. Despite challenges in his career, Green remained a beloved and respected player among basketball fans and teammates alike.
