Worthy was selected as the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1982 NBA draft. He played for the Lakers for twelve seasons and helped them win three NBA championships during the 1980s. Worthy was an integral part of the Lakers’ “Showtime” era, which was characterized by fast-paced, high-scoring games. He was known for his versatility, as he could play multiple positions and was equally proficient as a scorer, rebounder, and passer. During his career, Worthy averaged 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

Worthy retired from the NBA in 1994 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. He is now a successful businessman and has worked as a television analyst for ESPN. In addition to his achievements on the court, Worthy is also known for his philanthropic work. He has established the James Worthy Foundation, which aims to provide educational and recreational opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
