Josh Smith is a retired American professional basketball player. Born on December 5, 1985, Smith started playing basketball at a young age and went on to play for several teams during his professional career. Smith attended John McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, where he became a standout basketball player. In his senior year, he led his team to the state championship and was named the Georgia Player of the Year.
After high school, Smith declared for the NBA draft and was selected 17th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2004. He played for the Hawks for nine seasons and became known for his versatility and athleticism on the court. During his time with the team, he helped lead them to the playoffs six times, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2015. Smith also played for the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and New Orleans Pelicans during his career. In total, he played 13 seasons in the NBA and finished his career with an average of 14.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
Throughout his career, Smith was known for his strong defensive abilities and his ability to play multiple positions. He was also known for his dunking ability and his highlight-reel plays. In 2005, he won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest and earned a reputation as one of the best dunkers in the league. Smith was a fan favorite wherever he played and will be remembered as one of the most versatile players of his generation.
