Kurt ThomasKurt Thomas was an American professional basketball player born on October 4, 1972, in Dallas, Texas. He was a standout player at the University of TCU before being drafted by the Miami Heat in 1995 with the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft. Thomas played 18 seasons in the NBA with various teams, including the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Seattle SuperSonics, San Antonio Spurs, and Milwaukee Bucks, before retiring in 2013.
Thomas was well known for his versatility and toughness on the basketball court. He was a skilled rebounder and an excellent defender, blocking shots and altering defences. Thomas was a vital piece of the Knicks' 1999-2000 Eastern Conference Championship team, and he also led the NBA in total rebounds in 2000-2001. He scored a total of 7,181 points in his NBA career, with an average of 8.9 points per game, and grabbed 6,614 rebounds, with an average of 8.0 rebounds per game.
Thomas's achievements in basketball go beyond his professional career. He was a gold medalist with the U.S. men's basketball team at the 2003 FIBA Americas tournament. Thomas also holds several records at TCU, where he played from 1990 to 1995. He ranks second in career rebounds (1,149) and third in blocks (177) in the university's history. Kurt Thomas passed away on June 27, 2020, at the age of 48.
