Yao Ming is a retired Chinese basketball player, who played as a center in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Yao was born in September 1980 in Shanghai, China. At the age of 9, he started playing basketball, and by the time he was 14, he had already become a member of the Shanghai Sharks, a prominent professional team in China. Yao Ming was the first overall draft pick in the 2002 NBA draft and was selected by the Houston Rockets. In his very first season, Yao proved his worth as a basketball player by averaging 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. During his NBA career, Yao achieved many accolades, including eight NBA All-Star selections, five All-NBA team selections, and two NBA All-Defensive team selections. Yao's success on the basketball court helped him to become a prominent figure in the world of basketball, and he is regarded as one of the best basketball players to ever come from China.

Yao Ming retired from basketball in 2011, after playing eight seasons with the Houston Rockets. He will go down in history as one of the most successful and dominant players in the NBA. Yao not only made an impact on the court, but he also has made a difference off the court. After his retirement, Yao established the Yao Ming Foundation, which focuses on supporting child education and sports activities for disadvantaged children in China. Yao Ming's success and philanthropy have made him an inspiration to many young people, and his legacy as a basketball player will remain for many years to come.
