In 2006, Smith was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the NFL Draft. He was more of a backup and special teams player during his two seasons with the Steelers. However, he is best known for his bold prediction before a December 2007 game against the undefeated New England Patriots. Smith guaranteed a victory, which angered the Patriots players and became a motivating factor for them. The Patriots ended up winning the game 34-13, and Smith was heavily criticized for his prediction. Smith continued to play in the NFL for several years, with stints on the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Rams, Tennessee Titans, and New York Jets, before retiring in 2014.

Throughout his NFL career, Smith accumulated 205 tackles, five interceptions, and three forced fumbles. While he never became a star player, he is remembered for his confidence and fearless attitude on and off the field. Despite his brash prediction against the Patriots, Smith's NFL career was a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport of football.
