Ben Davidson Autographs
Ben Davidson, born on June 14, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, was a formidable defensive end who made his mark in professional football during the 1960s and early 1970s. Despite not playing football in high school, Davidson's athletic prowess was discovered while attending East Los Angeles College. He went on to play for the University of Washington, where he was part of two Rose Bowl-winning teams.
Davidson's professional career began when he was drafted by the New York Giants in 1961, but he was quickly traded to the Green Bay Packers. After brief stints with the Packers and Washington Redskins, Davidson found his true home with the Oakland Raiders in 1964. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 8 inches tall, he became a cornerstone of the Raiders' fearsome defense, earning three consecutive AFL All-Star selections from 1966 to 1968.
Known for his intimidating presence and iconic handlebar mustache, Davidson embodied the Raiders' renegade image. His most notorious moment came in a 1970 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, where his late hit on quarterback Len Dawson sparked a brawl and led to a rule change in the NFL. Davidson's aggressive style and memorable personality made him a fan favorite and contributed to the Raiders' reputation as one of the toughest teams in the league. He played 110 games with 70 starts for Oakland before retiring in 1972.
