Dave Casper

Dave Casper, born on February 2, 1952, is an American retired professional football player. He was a tight end who played 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from 1974 to 1984. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was a consensus All-American in 1973. He became known as "The Ghost" because of his elusive presence on the field and his ability to catch passes in critical moments. Casper was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as one of the league's top tight ends, helping the Raiders win three consecutive AFC championships from 1976 to 1978. Casper played in four Pro Bowls and was named to four All-Pro teams during his career. In 1977, he caught a game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Ken Stabler in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos. This play, known as "Ghost to the Post," is considered one of the greatest moments in NFL history.

Casper retired after the 1984 season with a total of 378 receptions for 5,216 yards and 52 touchdowns. He was a member of the NFL's 1970s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. In addition to football, Casper has been involved in philanthropic endeavors, including establishing the Dave Casper Foundation for Children with a focus on helping underprivileged children in his home state of Wisconsin.
