Dermontti Dawson was born on June 17, 1965, in Lexington, Kentucky. He attended Bryan Station High School and played football there. Dawson was an athletic kid who loved playing football and other sports in his free time. In 1988, Dawson was drafted in the second round, 44th overall, by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He quickly became a starter for the team and played there for thirteen seasons. Dawson was widely considered one of the best centers in the NFL during his career, as he was named to seven consecutive Pro Bowls and six All-Pro teams. In 1993, he was named first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career after playing in all sixteen games for the season.
