Fred Jackson is a former American football running back who spent nine seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on February 20, 1981, in Fort Worth, Texas. After playing college football at Coe College, Jackson went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft. He began his professional career playing for the Sioux City Bandits of the United Indoor Football league. Jackson's break came in 2006 when he signed as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills.
Jackson played for the Buffalo Bills from 2006 to 2014. During his career with the team, he became one of the most productive rushers in franchise history, finishing third all-time in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns. In 2009, Jackson rushed for 1,062 yards and caught 46 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns, earning him a Pro Bowl invitation. Despite suffering an MCL injury in 2012, he came back strong the following season, rushing for 890 yards and catching 47 passes for 387 yards in 2013.
After being released by the Bills in 2015, Jackson signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Jackson was used primarily as a backup to Marshawn Lynch, but he had several important carries in the second half of a 27–23 loss to the Carolina Panthers in the divisional round of the playoffs, including Seattle's final offensive play of the season. Jackson retired as a Seahawk at the conclusion of the 2015 NFL Season. Overall, Fred Jackson had a successful career in American football and is remembered as one of Buffalo Bills' all-time greats.
