Howie Long is a former American Football player who is best known for his career as a defensive end with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders from 1981 to 1993. Born on January 6, 1960, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Long played college football at Villanova University, where he was named an All-American defensive end. Long quickly established himself as a dominant player on the Raider's defensive line, earning eight Pro Bowl selections and being named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1985. He was a key member of the Raiders' Super Bowl-winning team in 1984, and three years later, he helped lead the team to another Super Bowl appearance. Over the course of his career, Long recorded 84 sacks and was known for his toughness, intimidation, and leadership qualities.
