Jahvid Best is a name often associated with American Football, who played as a running back for the University of California, Berkeley and the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). Born on January 30, 1989, in Richmond, California, Best showed a talent for sports from a young age, and he excelled in both football and track and field events in high school.
In 2008, Best enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he played for the Golden Bears football team. Over the next two seasons, Best set multiple records and made a name for himself as a leading college football player. In his final season at Berkeley, he was named a consensus All-American and was also named as the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year. With a total of 29 rushing touchdowns and 2,668 rushing yards in his college career, Best was regarded as one of the top picks eligible for the NFL draft in 2010.
In April 2010, Jahvid Best was selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the NFL draft, where he played for two seasons before he was forced to retire due to ongoing concussion problems. During his brief professional career, Best scored a total of nine touchdowns and rushed for 945 yards. Despite his short-lived career in the NFL, Jahvid Best's football achievements at the college level secured his place as one of California's all-time greats in American Football.
