He was awarded a scholarship to play football at Ohio State University, where he played as a defensive tackle for three seasons. After completing his college career, Jim Marshall joined the Cleveland Browns in 1960 as a 4th round pick in the NFL draft. He played for the Browns for a season before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 1961. During his time with the Vikings, he was part of the famous "Purple People Eaters" defense line, which was one of the most feared lines in football history. He played for the Vikings for 19 seasons, from 1961 to 1979, and was a vital contributor to their four Super Bowl appearances. Jim Marshall’s iron-man streak of playing 282 straight games became an incredible achievement that really set him apart from his contemporaries.
