Matt Roth is a former American football defensive end who played six seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on October 14, 1982, in Villa Park, Illinois. Roth played college football at the University of Iowa, where he recorded 171 total tackles, 20.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in his four-year career.
Roth was drafted in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, where he spent the first three seasons of his professional career. In his rookie season, he played in 14 games and recorded four sacks. He had his best year in 2006, where he played in all 16 games, registering five sacks and one interception. After three seasons with the Dolphins, he was released in 2008 and signed with the Cleveland Browns. Roth played two seasons in Cleveland before being released in 2010.
In his six seasons in the NFL, Roth played in 82 games and recorded 20.5 sacks, two interceptions, and five forced fumbles. Although his career was short-lived, he was known for his aggressive and physical style of play. Roth retired from football in 2013 and today works as a financial representative for Northwestern Mutual. He is married to his longtime girlfriend and has three children.
