Ray Guy was born December 22, 1949, in Swainsboro, Georgia. He was a football standout in high school and then enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played for the Golden Eagles from 1970 to 1972. After graduating from Southern Mississippi, Guy was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the 1973 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as the best punter in the league, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and six First-Team All-Pro honors during his 14-year career. Guy was also a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Raiders, helping the team win titles in 1976, 1980, and 1983. He is widely considered one of the greatest punters in NFL history and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Off the field, Guy struggled with alcoholism and addiction throughout his career. However, he eventually overcame these challenges and became a successful businessman and philanthropist. He established the Ray Guy Prokicker.com Kicking Academy, which helps young kickers and punters develop their skills, and is also involved in several charitable organizations.
