Rodney Harrison was born on December 15, 1972, in Markham, Illinois. He played high school football at Marian Catholic High School and was recruited to play at Western Illinois University. Harrison had a successful college career with the Western Illinois Leathernecks where he played as a strong safety. In 1994, Rodney Harrison entered the NFL Draft and was picked up by the San Diego Chargers in the fifth round. He played with the Chargers for nine seasons and earned two Pro Bowl selections in 1998 and 2001. During his time with the Chargers, Harrison was known for his toughness and hard-hitting style of play. He was also recognized for his ability to make big plays, having recorded 26 interceptions and 13.5 sacks over his career.

In 2003, Rodney Harrison signed with the New England Patriots as a free agent. He played with the Patriots for six seasons and was an instrumental part of the team's success during that period. Harrison helped lead the Patriots to two Super Bowl victories in 2004 and 2005. Over his career, Harrison recorded 34 interceptions, 8.5 sacks, and 9 forced fumbles.
