Ron Yary is a former professional American football player who played as an offensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL). Born on July 16, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, Yary grew up in California and played college football at the University of Southern California (USC), where he won the Outland Trophy in 1967 as the best interior lineman in college football. After his impressive college career, Yary was drafted first overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1968 NFL Draft, becoming the first offensive lineman to be chosen as the top pick. Yary started his professional career with the Minnesota Vikings in 1968 and quickly became one of the best offensive linemen in the league. He helped lead the Vikings to two Super Bowl appearances in his first four years with the team, including Super Bowl IV in 1970 and Super Bowl VIII in 1974. Yary was a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time first-team All-Pro selection during his fourteen-year career, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
