Sam Snead was an American golfer, born on May 27, 1912, in Virginia. He began playing golf at the age of seven using makeshift clubs made from tree limbs. In his teenage years, he started caddying at the Old Whtie Club in Virginia and then played a series of small tournaments before becoming a professional golfer in the year 1934. More about Sam Snead

Sam Snead's career spanned six decades. He won 82 PGA tour events which is third-most in PGA Tour history. Snead managed to win at least one PGA tour event every year from 1936 to 1965, an extraordinary record that still stands today. Snead also won three Masters, three PGA Championships, and one Open Championship. He has been inducted into various Halls of Fame, including the World Golf Hall of Fame and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Even after retiring from the PGA tour, Snead continued to play in various senior tournaments and honorary events. He was known for his unorthodox swing and his distinctive "dip" on his follow-through. Sam Snead passed away on May 23, 2002, at the age of 89, but the legacy he left behind in the world of golf continues to inspire many generations of golfers.
