Brendan Shanahan was born in Mimico, Ontario, Canada, on January 23, 1969. He grew up in a family of hockey enthusiasts, and his father played in the minor leagues. Brendan was first introduced to hockey by his father, who taught him how to skate when he was just three years old. He quickly developed a passion for the sport and began playing organized hockey by the age of six.
Shanahan's hockey career spanned over two decades, during which he became one of the most dominant players of his time. He began his professional career by playing for the New Jersey Devils, the team that selected him second overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Shanahan quickly established himself as a premier goal scorer, earning four consecutive 40-goal seasons between 1989 and 1993.
