Maltby's hockey career began in 1992 when he signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He played two seasons with the team before joining the Detroit Red Wings in 1996. It was with the Red Wings that Maltby would cement his legacy – he helped the team win four Stanley Cup championships in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008. Maltby was known for his gritty, hard-working style of play that made him a fan favourite. He played a pivotal role in the team's success, contributing both offensively and defensively.
