Martin Brodeur was born on May 6, 1972 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He grew up in a family of hockey players - his father and two of his brothers also played the sport. Brodeur began playing hockey at a young age and showed great potential early on. He was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the first round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft and got his start in the league during the 1991-92 season. More about Martin Brodeur

Brodeur retired from the NHL in 2015, but his legacy as one of the greatest goaltenders in hockey history lives on. He is considered a pioneer for his unique playing style, which incorporated more aggressive puck-handling than most goaltenders at the time. His success on the ice was due in part to his mental toughness and relentless work ethic, qualities which enabled him to perform at a consistently high level throughout his career.
