Michael Ryder is a former professional ice hockey player from Canada. He was born on March 31, 1980, in Bonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador, and he began his hockey journey when he was just a child. By the age of 16, Ryder was playing junior hockey for the Hull Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), and he quickly developed into a talented forward with a natural scoring touch.
In 1998, Ryder entered the NHL Entry Draft and was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the eighth round. He spent several years playing in the Canadiens' minor league system before finally breaking into the NHL for the 2003-04 season. Ryder's first year in the league was a success, as he tallied 25 goals and 63 points, finishing second in the Calder Trophy race for Rookie of the Year. He continued to play for the Canadiens until 2008 when he was traded to the Boston Bruins. In 2011, he helped lead the Bruins to their Stanley Cup championship and scored 18 points in 25 playoff games, cementing his status as a key contributor to the team's success.
