Hamrlik played for several teams during his twenty-year NHL career, including the Edmonton Oilers, the New York Islanders, the Calgary Flames, the Montreal Canadiens, the Washington Capitals, and the New York Rangers. He became known for his physical play and ability to shut down opposing teams’ top scorers. Throughout his career, he scored a total of 155 goals and 483 assists over 1,395 games, making him one of the most productive defensemen of his generation.

Hamrlik was also a standout player internationally, representing the Czech Republic in multiple tournaments, including the Olympics and the World Championships. In the 2002 Olympics, he helped lead the Czech Republic to a gold medal, scoring 2 goals and 3 assists in the tournament. He was widely regarded as one of the best defensemen of his generation and was inducted into the Czech Republic Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019. Today, Hamrlik is retired from professional hockey and lives in Florida, where he continues to be involved in the sport through coaching and community outreach.
