Ryan Kesler is a retired professional ice hockey player who was born on August 31, 1984, in Livonia, Michigan, USA. Kesler was a hardworking, two-way center who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 15 seasons. He played for Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, and the United States men's national ice hockey team.
Kesler had a prolific high school hockey career at East Kentwood High School in Michigan, playing for the Grand Rapids Griffins junior hockey system. He then joined the Ohio State Buckeyes men's ice hockey team, where he was part of the team from 2002 to 2003. He was drafted as the 23rd overall pick by Vancouver Canucks in 2003. Kesler had an immediate impact on the Canucks' team, and he was known for his aggressive and skilled gameplay. He was named the Selke Trophy winner twice, once in 2011 and again in 2012, for the NHL's best defensive forward.
In 2014, Kesler was traded to the Anaheim Ducks, where he played for another four seasons before retiring in 2019. In his NHL career, Kesler played 1,001 games, scoring 258 goals and registering 315 assists. He was known for his exceptional work ethic, fighting spirit, and leadership qualities on and off the ice. Kesler also represented his country, playing for the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympics and World Junior Championships. Despite his retirement, his legacy in the NHL and the sports world as a whole is secure for generations to come.
