Steve Bernier is a retired professional ice hockey player born on March 31, 1985, in Quebec, Canada. He began his hockey journey in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with Moncton Wildcats in 2001. After an impressive performance in his second season with Moncton Wildcats, he was selected as the 16th overall pick by the San Jose Sharks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Bernier played for five different NHL teams over his career and also played internationally for Team Canada.
Bernier made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks in 2006 and played his first complete NHL season in 2007-08 with 16 goals and 16 assists. He also played with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, and Buffalo Sabres during his career. Bernier's most notable performance was during the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he played an instrumental role in the New Jersey Devils' run to the Stanley Cup Finals. He scored 3 goals and added 6 assists in the playoffs, including a crucial overtime winner in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Florida Panthers.
Overall, Steve Bernier had a successful career spanning over 14 years, amassing a total of 607 NHL games, scoring 105 goals and 100 assists. He also represented Team Canada at the 2018 Spengler Cup Challenge, where he helped his team take home the championship. Though retired from professional hockey, Steve Bernier's contributions to the sport have earned him a place in the hearts of hockey fans and his place in the NHL history books.
