Tomas Plekanec is a Czech professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Czech Extraliga ice hockey team, HC Kometa Brno. Born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia, on October 31, 1982, Plekanec started his hockey career with the HC Kladno team in the Czech Extraliga, where he played for four seasons from 2000-2004. Plekanec was signed by Montreal Canadiens in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, 71st overall. He played his first NHL game for the Canadiens in the 2003-04 season, becoming a regular in the team's lineup from the 2005-06 season. During his 15-year career with the Canadiens, Plekanec played over 1,000 games, scoring 233 goals and 375 assists for 608 points. He played an important role in helping his team clinch playoff berths in nine of his fifteen seasons, also winning the Jacques Beauchamp Trophy as the Canadiens' Media's Choice for the 2014-15 season's Unsung Hero.

In 2018, Montreal Canadiens traded Tomas Plekanec to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he played for the rest of the 2017-18 season. The following season, he played for the Slovak Extraliga team, HC Ocelari Trinec, returning to Brno to play with HC Kometa again in the 2019-20 season. Additionally, Plekanec has represented his country at international levels, winning a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics held in Turin, Italy. Overall, Tomas Plekanec has been an admirable servant of hockey, making significant contributions towards the game in the Czech Republic, North America, and international levels.
