He was born on April 21, 1980, in Ile Bizard, Quebec, and started playing hockey at the age of four. Lecavalier spent the first 14 seasons of his professional hockey career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, a team he helped lead to a Stanley Cup victory in 2004. He was an explosive forward who was renowned for his sniper-like shooting ability and was consistently one of the top scorers in the league. He was also a strong presence in the locker room, serving as team captain from 2008 to 2013. In addition to his success with the Lightning, Lecavalier played for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Los Angeles Kings before retiring in 2016.

Overall, Lecavalier played in 1,212 NHL games, scoring 421 goals and notching 528 assists for a total of 949 points. He represented Canada in several international competitions, winning gold medals at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Lecavalier was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018, cementing his legacy as one of the most talented and beloved players in NHL history.
