Gingrich attended college at Emory University in Georgia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in history. Gingrich’s political career started when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1978, representing Georgia’s 6th congressional district. He served in the House for ten terms and became known for his leadership roles in the Republican Party. He was ultimately elected Speaker of the House in 1995, becoming the first Republican to hold that position in 40 years. Gingrich was an influential figure in Republican politics during his time in Congress, and helped lead the charge against President Bill Clinton during the impeachment proceedings in the late 1990s.

After leaving Congress in 1999, Gingrich continued to be involved in conservative politics. He has authored many books on politics and serves as a regular commentator on various news shows. In 2012, he made a bid for the Republican nomination for president, ultimately losing to Mitt Romney.
