Armstrong's most famous achievement came on July 20, 1969, when he commanded the Apollo 11 mission and became the first human to set foot on the Moon. His famous words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" still echo in history. Armstrong and his crewmates Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins spent more than 21 hours on the lunar surface, carrying out experiments and collecting samples before returning to Earth. His role in the Apollo 11 mission forever solidified Armstrong's legacy as one of the most important figures in space exploration.

Following the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong was offered numerous opportunities to continue his career in space. However, he ultimately chose to retire from NASA and pursue a career in education, becoming a professor of engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He remained an advocate for space exploration until his death in 2012, recognizing the importance of pushing the boundaries of scientific understanding and inspiring future generations to reach new heights in space. Armstrong's contributions to space exploration continue to be celebrated around the world and his impact on the field will be felt for generations to come.
