Austin Romine is a professional baseball player born on November 22, 1988 in Lake Forest, California. He grew up around baseball as his father Kevin Romine was a former Major League Baseball player. Austin attended high school in Southern California and was selected by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2007 MLB draft. Romine slowly worked his way up through the Yankees' minor league system, playing for various teams like the Staten Island Yankees, Charleston RiverDogs, and Trenton Thunder. He made his MLB debut on September 11, 2011, and played sporadically for the Yankees over the next few seasons. It was not until 2018, after veteran catcher Brian McCann's departure, that Romine became the team's primary backup catcher.
