Blake Griffin was born on March 16, 1989, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Tommy and Gail Griffin, both of whom were athletes in their own right. Blake attended the University of Oklahoma, where he played college basketball for two seasons under head coach Jeff Capel. In his freshman year, he was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Year after averaging 14.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. He was also named the Big 12 Player of the Year in his sophomore season.
