Boesch was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2006 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Tigers in 2010 and quickly became a fan favorite with his power hitting and strong arm in right field. In his rookie season, Boesch hit .256 with 14 home runs and 67 RBIs in 115 games. He played for the Tigers for three seasons before being released in 2013.

After his release from the Tigers, Boesch had brief stints with the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Cincinnati Reds, and Boston Red Sox. He played in a total of 481 MLB games over six seasons, hitting .250 with 47 home runs and 163 RBIs.
