Carlos Ruiz, nicknamed Chooch, was born on January 22, 1979, in David, Panama. He played in the Major League Baseball as a catcher for sixteen seasons. He was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent in 1998 and played his first game in 2006. He played for the Phillies from 2006 to 2016, and he played for the Seattle Mariners, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago White Sox in his last two seasons of play. Ruiz was a right-handed hitter with a keen batting eye and recorded an on-base percentage of .353. He had a knack for limited strikeouts, with a relatively low strikeout rate of 10.2 percent, which was lower than many of his peers. More about Carlos Ruiz

During his career, Ruiz was one of the most successful catchers in Major League Baseball. He is recognized for his exceptional defensive abilities and outstanding pitch-framing skills. During his time with the Phillies, he played a considerable role in winning five consecutive National League (NL) East titles from 2007 to 2011, and he also helped them win the World Series in 2008. He had a great connection with the pitching staff, which gave him a better understanding of the game, ensuring victory. He completed his long baseball career with an impressive total of 68 home runs, 401 runs batted in, and an overall batting average of .266.

After retiring from baseball, Ruiz began coaching in the Philadelphia Phillies as a future manager for the team. He was the featured speaker in 40th Annual Awards Banquet to Combat Homelessness in 2018, where he charitably sponsored programs for the homeless. More than anything, Carlos Ruiz showed the world how hard work, dedication, and determination can create a championship-caliber player and leader. He is regarded as one of the most prolific catchers in the modern era, and his his accomplishments will always be remembered throughout the sports world.
