Willis made his MLB debut as a member of the Florida Marlins in 2003, where he quickly established himself as one of the best starting pitchers in the league. That same year, Willis helped lead the Marlins to their second-ever World Series championship, earning the National League Rookie of the Year award in the process. He finished the 2005 season with a 22-10 record and a 2.63 ERA and became an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Throughout his career, Willis played for several other teams, including the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Cincinnati Reds, but his best years were undoubtedly with the Marlins. His unique pitching style, which included a distinctive windup, made him a fan favorite and earned him the nickname “D-Train”. Although he retired from baseball in 2014, Willis remains a beloved figure in the game and one of the most exciting pitchers to ever take the mound.
