Steinbrenner was known for his hands-on management style and his big-budget approach to team building. He was notorious for making splashy trades and signings, including acquiring superstar Reggie Jackson in 1976 and signing star pitcher Catfish Hunter in 1974. Known for his no-nonsense approach, he was not afraid to shake up the team, firing and rehiring managers numerous times throughout his tenure. Steinbrenner was suspended twice by Major League Baseball, once for illegal campaign contributions and the other for hiring a private investigator to dig up dirt on one of his own players.

Despite his brash and sometimes controversial style, Steinbrenner’s dedication to the Yankees was unwavering. In 1990, he founded the Silver Shield Foundation to provide educational scholarships and support to families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. Steinbrenner passed away on July 13, 2010, leaving a legacy as one of the most influential figures in baseball history. He was posthumously elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
