In 2001, Hardy was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft. He spent several years in the minor leagues before making his Major League debut in 2005. Hardy quickly became a standout player for the Brewers and was named to the All-Star team in 2007. He continued to excel over the next few seasons, setting a career-high in home runs with 26 in 2008. During his time with the Brewers, Hardy also earned a reputation as one of the best defensive shortstops in the league.

After being traded to the Minnesota Twins in 2010, Hardy played just one season with the team before being traded again, this time to the Baltimore Orioles. It was with the Orioles that Hardy really made his mark, developing a reputation as a clutch player who stepped up in important moments. In 2011, he helped lead the Orioles to their first playoff appearance in 15 years, and he continued to be a steady presence in the lineup and in the field for the rest of his career. Hardy officially retired in 2018 with a career batting average of .259, 188 home runs, and 1,106 hits. Read even more about J.J. Hardy at Wikipedia
