Jake Westbrook Autographs
Jake Westbrook was born on September 29, 1977, in Athens, Georgia. He attended Madison County High School, where he was a star athlete in baseball and basketball. In 1996, he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the first round, but he chose to attend college instead. In 1997, the New York Yankees selected him in the first round of the draft, and he signed with them.
Westbrook began his professional baseball career in 1997, playing for the Gulf Coast Yankees. He moved up quickly through the Yankees farm system over the next few years, making his Major League debut in 2000. He spent five seasons with the Yankees before being traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2004. It was in Cleveland where Westbrook found his groove, becoming a reliable starter for the team. In 2005, he led the American League in ground ball/flyball ratio, cementing his reputation as a ground ball pitcher. Westbrook's best season came in 2004, when he had a 3.38 ERA and won 14 games. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals for the last two seasons of his career, retiring after the 2013 season.
Throughout his 13-year career, Jake Westbrook was known for his exceptional control and ability to induce ground balls. His sinker was his best pitch, and he relied on it heavily to get ahead in the count and get out of jams. He finished his career with a 105-103 record, 4.32 ERA, and 1,086 strikeouts. Westbrook was a valued teammate and respected competitor who gave his all on the field. Although he did not win any major awards or accolades, his consistent play and longevity in the league were a testament to his talent and hard work.
