May made his Major League debut with the Reds in 1965, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the league. He played with the Reds for nine seasons, from 1965 to 1971 and then from 1975 to 1978, and he also played with the Houston Astros and the Baltimore Orioles. Throughout his career, May was known for his impressive hitting abilities, particularly his power hitting. He hit 354 home runs over the course of his 18-year career, and he was a four-time All-Star.

Despite battling injuries throughout his career, May remained a consistent and powerful hitter, and he was widely respected by his teammates and opponents alike. He retired from baseball in 1982, and he was later inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2006. Today, Lee May is remembered as one of the greatest power hitters in baseball history, and his impressive legacy continues to inspire young athletes around the world.
