Mickey LolichMickey Lolich is a retired American Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher. He was born on September 12, 1940, in Portland, Oregon. He began his professional baseball career in 1961 when he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Detroit Tigers. However, it wasn't until a few years later, in 1963 when he made his debut in the major league. He played for the Detroit Tigers until 1975 when he was traded to the New York Mets.
Lolich is best known for his performance in the 1968 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched three complete games in the best-of-seven series, winning all three games and leading the Tigers to their first World Series championship in over 20 years. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the series. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
In addition to his successful career, Lolich's height, 6'0", and weight, 210 pounds, made him stand out from other pitchers at the time. He was considered one of the heaviest and most durable pitchers of his era. After his retirement, he coached and mentored young players in minor league baseball. Mickey Lolich was a fan favorite and considered one of the most iconic players of his time. His contribution to the Detroit Tigers is legendary, and his legacy is still remembered and celebrated today.
