Mickey Lolich is a retired American Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher. He was born on September 12, 1940, in Portland, Oregon. He began his professional baseball career in 1961 when he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Detroit Tigers. However, it wasn't until a few years later, in 1963 when he made his debut in the major league. He played for the Detroit Tigers until 1975 when he was traded to the New York Mets. Lolich is best known for his performance in the 1968 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched three complete games in the best-of-seven series, winning all three games and leading the Tigers to their first World Series championship in over 20 years. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the series. Lolich consistently posted high numbers for the Tigers, with an overall record of 217-191, a 3.44 earned run average (ERA), and 2,832 strikeouts.
